GAME STATS: What can UPMBT learn from their first loss?

Published

on

This is a wicked weekend. It is the second straight day that our basketball team was dealt with its first loss. So what can the team learn from this game?

First, execution is important. UP actually moved the ball well and even had more assists (19 vs 14) in this game. But Ateneo executed their plays better and shot better on the field (43.7% vs 41.7%). Another thing we were not able to execute was our free throws. We missed 15 free throw shots and had our season low free throw percentage (44.4%)

Second, as a Slamdunk episode once said – “The one that controls the rebounds controls the game.” We were outrebounded by Ateneo in this game (45 vs 57) and this is the only time that we were outrebounded by double digits in #UAAPSeason86.

Lastly, there are also positives in this game. Our defense was still there. We forced the game to overtime by defending well. We forced them to give up the ball more and we had less turnovers (14 vs 21). But there were still lapses and we can improve on this.

What do the boys need to do? Learn, regroup and bounce back.
