GAME STATS: What can UPMBT learn after dropping their 2nd game?

The UP Men’s Basketball Team stayed on top of the standings but still dropped their round 2 match up against another Final Four contender DLSU. So what can UPMBT learn from this game?

First, despite executing their shots better (45.5% vs 39.5% field goal percentage), the team gave more chances to DLSU to score (76 vs 66 attempts) and they maximized it. They shot better from beyond the arc (17.4% v 40.0%) and made all of their 9 uncontested shots.

Second, the defense of DLSU really gave us a hard time in executing plays. They forced us to pass more and limited the team to 10 assists, a season low for UP in UAAP Season 86.

Last, their defense also forced us to commit more turnovers (17 vs 11) and they capitalized these turnovers and converted it to 22 points (vs UP’s 10).

For the next games, things the team can improve on is the team’s 3 point and free throw shooting and limiting the fouls. The team attempted 23 shots beyond the arc but only made 4 and they also missed 8 free throws (65.2%). They also gave up 23 fouls that gave DLSU 29 free throw attempts.

Despite the loss, the team still is on top of the standings but from here on, every game is must win if we want to get the twice to beat advantage in the Final Four.
