University of the Philippines’ depth proved to be too much for Adamson University, paving the way for a 57-45 romp to bounce back in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday at Adamson Gym in San Marcelino, Manila.

The Fighting Maroons, who were coming off consecutive losses to the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the UST Growling Tigresses, rose to 7-2 to remain second.

“We’re happy about the win,” said Fighting Maroons head coach Paul Ramos. “We’re trying to get momentum going and we’re going back to trying to achieve our process goals.

“I feel that the two games that we lost, we did not achieve the game goals that we wanted that’s why we lost,” he continued.

League-leader National University is still facing Far Eastern University as of press time.

No Fighting Maroon breached double-figures for the Fighting Maroon with Kaye Pesquera, Favour Onoh, Rizza Lozada, and Rhea Sanchez all scoring eight apiece.

Pesquera, a sophomore guard, also produced five assists, four rebounds, and three steals while Onoh, a Nigerian center, also grabbed 14 rebounds.

All but two Fighting Maroons scored in the contest.

And UP showed its entire arsenal in the third quarter.

Up 26-22 entering the second half, UP turned up the pressure after the pressure.

The Fighting Maroons quintet pounded the Lady Falcons on both ends, putting up 17 points while limiting the home team to just four to gain a 43-26 lead entering the final frame.

Lozada and Shela Godez added to the Lady Falcons’ woes in the fourth quarter by stretching UP’s lead to as much as 51-30 with 7:42 remaining.

The Fighting Maroons also defeated the Lady Falcons in their first round encounter, 92-61.

UP will look to exact vengeance on Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday, November 5, 11 a.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
