UPWBT R1 ADMU

A huge maroon crowd gathered in the Adamson gym yesterday but after the dust settled, the UP Women’s Basketball Team was handed their first loss of #UAAPSeason86. So what can the team learn from this game?

First, execution is important. UP shot a measly 33.8% from the field against Ateneo’s 43.9%. To further drill it down, Ateneo shot tremendously well beyond the 3pt arc, making 52.6% vs UP’s 35.3%. UP was not able to defend their 3pt shooters and we gave up 10 extra points from those made 3pt shots.

Second, UP was limited to their season low 7 assists. The team has been moving the ball well in their previous games and has been able to find the open man. But the height, the length and the defense of Ateneo made it difficult for them to execute.

Lastly, despite being outrebounded (43 vs 46), the grit of the girls gave them more second chance points (24 vs 9) and they really fought for every possession. The character of the team was tested but it was evident that they did not give up until the end.

What do the girls need to do? Learn, regroup and bounce back.
