GAME STATS: How did the UPWBT get the revenge win?

The UP Women’s Basketball Team did not just get the revenge win, but they did in a convincing and dominating fashion. So how did they do it?

First, the team executed better, shooting 33.7% from the field and limited Ateneo to just 23.9%. Furthermore, Ateneo was limited to 17.4% from the 3 point area, just making 4 shots from beyond the arc. We also played to our strengths – dominated the shaded area (46 vs 18 points in the paint) and ran more fastbreaks (27 vs 3 fastbreak points).

Second, defense made wonders for the team. UP forced Ateneo to commit 38 turnovers, the most by any team this UAAP Season 86. We were able to convert these turnovers to points (31 vs 7) that widen the lead. Our press also gave us more steals (23 vs 9).

For the next games, the team needs to look at 3 point shooting and rebounding. The team only made 19% from beyond the arc and the team was outrebounded by Ateneo in this game (62 vs 53).

The win solidified the team’s hold of the 2nd place. With only four games left, every win counts and that twice to beat advantage is still with in reach.
