Coming from a confident blowout win against UST, UP goes head to head with NU. Former NU Bullpups head coach Goldwin Monteverde and players Terrence Fortea, Gerry Abadiano, Carl Tamayo, and Harold Alarcon see action against their alma mater.

First off on the court are Joel Cagulangan, James Spencer, Malick Diouf, Carl Tamayo, and Ricci Rivero. The team suffered another slow start but launched a 10 to nothing spark highlighted by a Diouf slam, after quickly recovering from NU’s 6-0 opening blast. CJ Cansino and Alarcon also converted free throws to keep the game close.

In the second frame, UP and NU went through a seesaw battle but the former squad broke through to go on a 13-2 dash to take the advantage. Fortea chipped in 7 markers for himself. At the half, UP went on a 46% field goal percentage and 15 assists, spearheaded by Rivero and Cagulangan despite accumulating 10 turnovers.

With the 11 turnovers that UP committed in the third quarter, the team struggled to pull away as they exchanged baskets with NU, squeaking in a 2-point lead. The final 10 minutes saw Rivero, Lucero, and Cansino’s scoring and hustle, along with Cagulangan’s steady playmaking to help UP break through from NU’s physical play. Since UP established an 11-0 run and dished 24 assists, they never looked back, maintaining the separation until the final buzzer.

Rivero keyed in 19 points, 4 dimes, and 2 steals, while court general Cagulangan tallied 6 assists to complement his 9 points and 8 rebounds.

UP, now with a 2-1 record, is set to face the UE Red Warriors on Saturday, at 1 PM, aiming for a third consecutive win.
