GAME STATS UP DLSU ROUND 1

It was like Season 85 again yesterday – UP fans at the brink of their seats up to the last seconds of the game. But when the dust settled, both the UP Women’s and Men’s Basketball Teams were able to defeat DLSU to get win #6. So how did UP scrape past DLSU to win the game?

First of all, both DLSU’s basketball teams started the game strong. They played to their strengths – running at every opportunity and playing fast. Both teams led after the first quarter but UP did not let their guard down.

For the women’s team, DLSU was able to limit UP to its worst shooting game of the season (33.3% vs 37.1%) and they outrebounded UP as well (39 vs 57). But UPWBT compensated in terms of moving the ball better (17 vs 10 assists), controlling their turnovers (20 vs 33), and protecting the rim (3 vs 1 blocks).

For the men’s team, it was a pretty even match in all of the stats. UPMBT also had their season low field goal shooting (31.6%) and assists (12). Defense was key in this win by the UPMBT – aside from the great zone defense in the 3Q, they forced DLSU to commit more turnovers (20 vs 33) and UP got more steals (11 vs 9 steals), including the game winning steal at the end of the game. One thing we needed to improve on was our 3pt shooting (17.6%)
