UP Sweeps the Inter-Collegiate Badminton Championships

The UP Badminton Varsity Team carried their perfect run in the eliminations and into the Finals, beating San Beda University 3-0, to win the inaugural Inter-Collegiate Badminton Championships crown held on Sunday afternoon at the Centro Atletico Badminton Court in Quezon City.

 

They amassed dominating wins in the elimination round, going 5-0 against Ateneo de Manila University, Adamson University, and University of Santo Tomas, to take the top spot in the Group A and advance to the championship game.

 

Rookie Kervin Llanes opened with a 21-13 and 22-20 victory over SBU’s Laurence Alejo in the Men’s Singles match.

 

Anthea Gonzales, another freshman, picked up where she left off from her stellar outing against UST in the morning, completely taking over Dana Navarro identical 21-7 set scores.

 

It was the seniors’ turn in third and title-clinching team tie as Jason Vanzuela and Michael Clemente capped off the Fighting Maroons’ spotless campaign in the tournament in a 21-16, 21-11 win over Arjhay Lazareto and Ramon Timothy Santos.

 

The championship team were also headlined by Paul Gonzales, Enzo Rivera, Althea Fuentespina, Susmita Ramos, and Janelle Andres.
