University of the Philippines remained winless in Round 2 of the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Football Tournament after being overwhelmed, 0-5, by Far Eastern University’s late-game barrage on Saturday, November 16, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Despite exhibiting a strong defense for majority of the game, the Fighting Maroons failed to survive the Lady Tamaraws’ second half blitz, where they managed to net five goals in under fifteen minutes.

Rookie Kyza Colina was the first to score for FEU, taking advantage of captain Dionesa Tolentin’s cross at the 74 minute mark, then later making a brace in the 87th minute. Carmela Altiche also managed a brace, with her first goal once more coming off a Tolentin assist in the 81st minute and securing her second in the 85th minute.

Completing the green and gold squad’s dominant victory over the Fighting Maroons was Judie Arevalo, who scored a tap-in at the 80 minute mark.

The Fighting Maroons suffered a lack of offense all throughout the match, having only two shot attempts in comparison to FEU’s 24, 11 of which were on target. Furthermore, UP only managed to take two corners, as opposed to FEU’s seven.

With this win, the FEU Lady Tamaraws are the first team to book a ticket to the Finals on December 14, tallying a total of 13 points and a +11 goal differential. The defending champions are gunning for another three-peat, which they last achieved in Season 75-77, in addition to searching for their 13th title.

Meanwhile, following UST’s 3-0 win over Ateneo, the UP Fighting Maroons are currently in fourth place with five points and a -8 goal differential. They stand behind FEU, DLSU (11 points, +5 GD), and UST (5 points, -1 GD).

The Diliman-based squad will look to tally their first win in the second round when they face UST at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at their home pitch.

FEU will also face the Growling Tigers at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the same venue.
