UP finishes sixth in UAAP CDC with “Sunny Side UP” Routine

The UP Varsity Pep Squad landed at sixth place with their “Sunny Side UP” routine in the UAAP Season 87 Cheerdance Competition last Sunday, December 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Sporting vibrant orange and blue hues with sunflower accents, the UP Varsity Pep Squad brought the warmth of summer to the first day of December. They concluded their performance by raising a sun adorned with the UP Oblation, symbolizing that brighter days are ahead.
Their summer-inspired piece garnered a total of 560 points from 53.5 points in tumbling, 64 points in stunts, 68 points in tosses, 72.5 points in pyramids, 319 points in dance, and 17 points deduction.
From their fifth place finish last year that paid tribute to classic OPM hits by the Eraserheads, they slipped one spot down to sixth, and have yet to come back to the podium since their iconic “Utak Puso” routine which won the bronze in UAAP Season 78 in 2015.
After settling for second last season, National University displayed an “out-of-this-world” performance, dominating all five skill categories with a total of 713 points to claim their eighth title, now tying UP and UST with the most championships.
Adamson Pep Squad claimed second place with their karaoke-themed routine, scoring 679.5 points, while Season 86 champions FEU Cheering Squad finished third with their Frozen-inspired performance, earning 650 points. UE Pep Squad’s nostalgic Sexbomb-themed routine narrowly missed the podium, securing fourth place with 641 points. UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe followed in fifth with their Wansapanataym-inspired performance, scoring 634.5 points.
The UP Varsity Pep Squad took sixth, while DLSU Animo Squad’s Queen’s Gambit-themed routine placed seventh with 525 points, and the Ateneo Blue Eagles rounded out the rankings in eighth with their Big Bang-inspired piece, scoring 490 points.
